WHICH MEKONG RIVER CRUISE TO CHOOSE?

A Mekong river cruise is breathtaking, with spectacular stunning backdrops, as you pass by riverside towns and villages, and through the remote jungle and vibrant cities. The Mekong is the world's twelfth longest river and the seventh longest in Asia. From the Tibetan Plateau the river runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. On our luxurious river cruises, you will experience firsthand, the local way of life along the mighty Mekong River. Meet the locals in small villages along the river and get up close and discover a new and fascinating way of life as you cruise through remote and less visited areas.

Journey through the maze of waterways where life is simple and traditional, yet fascinating and captivating. You will discover that life that has continued unchanged for decades, dependent on the river but thriving in the lush, fertile environment. Pass by floating villages where you will be fascinated by the people and their unique way of life, visit traditional villages and the busy local markets. Learn why this region is called the “rice bowl” of Vietnam, as you cruise past the lush rice paddies filled with workers in conical hats.

Sailings on the lower Mekong are between Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and Siem Reap in Cambodia, with an option of pre or post-cruise stays in both cities to extend your holiday experience. Our cruises dock overnight in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, allowing you time to explore the vibrant city and the famous Cu Chi Tunnels.

Cruises on the Upper Mekong sail from Laos to Thailand or Laos to Laos with an extension in Cambodia. Our ship is the only ship to sail from Laos to the famous Golden Triangle in Northern Thailand. Far beyond the usual tourist trails, the majestic river winds its way through remote areas barely touched by tourism. Making a cruise on the upper Mekong a unique journey.

All our cruises are escorted by an experienced Tweet World Travel Tour Director and our expert local guides to make sure that you have a truly unforgettable trip of a lifetime!

From the moment you step on board all your meals are included and you will be spoilt with the Fusion of Asian and Western cuisine. Breakfasts are a daily buffet with a wide selection of freshly prepared hot and cold food. Lunch and dinners are either buffet or a set menu. Don't worry if you have any allergies or dietary requirements as they can be well catered for.

We provide authentic shore experiences with a real, local perspective. We take you to local farms to taste the exotic fruits and honey and to the villages to see the skillful craftsman. Visit the local school to meet the children who enjoy practicing their English skills. Taste and see how puffed rice and coconut candy is produced. Visit a local monastery to receive a traditional Buddhist blessing. Glimpse the villagers going about their daily lives whether it be pottery production, fish farming or a weaver’s factory. Stop at the traditional markets, where you can find anything from clothes to fruit and souvenirs to spring rolls. Or simply stroll through the villages and watch the local townspeople buying their daily needs.

Discover the famous Cu Chi Tunnels with our informative tour guide. Go underground to explore the tunnel system, walk around the forest, and learn about how the Vietnamese people lived below the ground and get a glimpse of what life was like for those who called these tunnels “home”. Walk through the elaborate Royal Palace complex at Phnom Penh and be reminded of the tragic recent history under the Khmer Rouge regime at the Killing Fields and the Tuol Sleng prison. You will be immersed in the history and culture, as you cruise takes you along the Mekong River.

During our shore excursions you will travel through the cities and the villages like a local. Travel by Tuk Tuk and ox cart and get a close-up look at the bustling cities and quiet countryside. A ride in a sampan along the mangrove lined canals is a highlight not to be missed.

Lower Mekong River cruises are available throughout the year, during both the wet season (May through October) and dry season (November through April). Cruising during the wet season means you'll have higher water levels on the Mekong and Tonle Sap Lake. This means your ship will most likely be able to sail the entire route. In the dry season, boats are not able to sail all the way to Siem Reap, and five-hour bus ride to Siem Reap is required. Upper Mekong Cruises are offered August to May.

Our Mekong Cruises range from 8-12 days, and we can customize and extend your holiday with additional touring and cruises throughout Asia. Our Asia experts will listen and help you to plan your dream holiday.
